Matthew has explored yoga in a way that very few others ever have. His eighteen-year experience as a paralyzed yoga practitioner gives him an unprecedented perspective and he shares it with people of all abilities – from the very advanced traditional student to the beginner with disabilities. His teaching challenges any student’s perception of yoga, what it needs to look like and what it can be. For this, Matthew feels an enormous debt of gratitude to Sri BKS Iyengar. Without his revolutionary work with alignment, precision, emphasis on individual poses and innovative use of props, yoga would not be possible for Matthew. Recently, Matthew became a certified Iyengar yoga teacher and also is registered as an E-RYT 500 yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance.
Matthew teaches the full spectrum of yoga students – from the person living with disabilities to the more traditional student. But regardless of who his students are, the principles of yoga are universal and apply to everyone. Matthew’s life is living proof of this.
